Congratulations to Brittany Carswell, who has been named Principal of Dewar Elementary School beginning in the 2025-2026 school year! Mrs. Carswell brings over 17 years of educational experience and a deep commitment to student success, academic growth, and collaborative leadership. She holds a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership certification from Valdosta State University, along with a Gifted Endorsement and a strong foundation in both elementary and middle grades education. Throughout her career, she has served as a classroom teacher, department chair, and, most recently, Assistant Principal at Pine Grove Middle School. In each of these roles, Mrs. Carswell has demonstrated a passion for creating student-centered learning environments, supporting instructional excellence, and building meaningful relationships with families and staff. She has led initiatives in curriculum development, school improvement planning, and professional learning, always with a focus on helping students reach their full potential. As the new leader of Dewar Elementary, Mrs. Carswell is excited to continue the school’s strong tradition of academic achievement and community partnership. She believes in fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, empowering students through innovative teaching practices, and working closely with families to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all. Under her leadership, Dewar Elementary will continue to grow as a place where students are encouraged to dream big, work hard, and achieve success—together as part of our Adventure Awaits: Explore, Learn, Achieve! theme.

🎉 Celebrating Two Incredible Careers! 🎉 Dewar Elementary was proud to honor Mr. Owens Miller and Ms. Deborah Berrien as they retire after decades of dedicated service to our school community! 🏫❤️ ✨ Mr. Miller has faithfully served our school for an astonishing 44 years, becoming a cornerstone of our campus and a friendly, familiar face to generations of students, staff, and families. His hard work, quiet strength, and pride in keeping our school safe and welcoming have made a lasting impact. ✨ Ms. Berrien has given 26 and a half years of devoted service, always bringing warmth, kindness, and a smile to everything she does. Her attention to detail and love for our students have left an unforgettable mark on our halls and hearts. Additional Tryouts for the Middle School Competition Cheer Team!! We will be holding an additional round of tryouts on **Monday, May 19**, and **Tuesday, May 20**, from **5:00–6:00 PM** at **South Georgia Athletics**.

Special thanks to the Wharf for selecting DES to receive a seafood platter, appetizer coupons, and gift cards door prizes as their way of recognizing the amazing work of our teachers.

Ms. Milton and Mrs.Daniels’ classes completed the novel, Because of Winn-Dixie, this week and celebrated by presenting a retelling of the important events they made on Canva. In addition, we recreated Opal’s garden party with some of the book character’s favorite snacks! So much fun!

The end of a happy week! Today, the teachers enjoyed subs and chips from Jimmy John's along with drinks, potato salad, cookies, and brownies! The Koozies and gift bags were an added bonus! Thank you to CPIE/Greers Gifts, our fabulous PTO, and our magnificent Administration for making today special!
