Ms. Taylor’s second grade class has been learning about Martin Luther King Junior. They completed a writing assignment on which character trait best describes him and why. After writing, they created a directed drawing of Dr. King.

Good Afternoon, Viking Family,
We hope that you have enjoyed your Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday today!
We want you to know that we have been closely monitoring Winter Storm Demi and have been in contact with Lowndes EMA and other officials. With the storm’s timing, there are no anticipated threats during school hours on Tuesday, so we will have school on Tuesday, January 21st.
All after-school activities on Tuesday will end by 5:00pm, including Prime Time. The Lowndes versus Colquitt basketball game is postponed.
However, with the chance of ice and possible snow on the roads Wednesday morning, and the safety of our staff and students being our top priority, we have made the decision to close all Lowndes County Schools and System offices Wednesday, January 22nd.
We look forward to seeing your student at school tomorrow and encourage you to stay safe and warm on Wednesday!

Students in Mrs. Niewoonder's first grade class learned about magnets. They learned how magnets are used in every day life and conducted experiments to demonstrate how magnets attract and repel each other and what effect magnets have on common objects.

Adventures in action! Mrs. Renfroe's 4th grade class embarked on an exciting journey through history, retracing the steps of Lewis and Clark. Each station brought a new discovery about their expedition westward.

Miss Ply’s class is preparing to start learning how to write their own opinion piece! Students split into groups depending on their opinion on “Would you rather have a tablet or a cell phone?” As a group, they discussed multiple reasons but had to agree on three. As a group, they shared their reasons with the class to see if they could persuade their classmates! ✍️

Ms. Shiver's Science 5th grade students worked in small groups to create and label animal and plant cells.

Congratulations to our January Vikings of the Month from each homeroom. These students enjoyed a delicious McDonald's lunch! Thanks you Bemiss McDonald's for making this possible!

It’s been a December to remember in Mrs. Heeter’s math classes!! From a friendly game of divide and get pied 🥧, to solving math problems in the dark 🔦, to a magical winter wonderland! ❄️ It’s been one for the books! 📚 Students have worked hard, laughed harder, and made incredible memories along the way. 🎉✨ Here's to wrapping up 2024 with fun, learning, and a whole lot of math magic! 🎄➗✖️

Last Friday, our Deployment Club kids gathered for breakfast and crafts to celebrate the upcoming Holidays. This time of year can challenging for our families who have deployed family members. We had some GREAT helpers from Moody AFB who came and crafted and played games with our students. Thank you MAFB for your continued support.

Last week, our 5th grade girls were visited by our guest speaker, Casey Horne. Mrs. Horne showed us that our value is not dependent on how others view us but on how we view ourselves. The girls wrote their own negative thoughts and negative comments others may say about them on sticky notes and ripped them to pieces! We also talked about the importance of our words and how some words can feel like cotton (positive) and some words can be itchy like sandpaper (negative). Thank you Mrs. Horne for coming to speak with and inspire our girls to know their worth!

The Grinch paid a sneaky visit and decided to spread some fowl holiday mischief! He crept into the chicken coop, and let all the Dewar chickens run free! Some of our chicken tenders intervened and our ladies are safely back inside!
